A stunning Antique insect brooch from the turn of the 20^th Century (Circa 1900). The piece is decorated with glistening Diamonds, red Ruby eyes and two Turquoise which make up the body and abdomen. The wings are also zigzagged in a royal Blue Enamel and decorated with further Diamonds.

Insect jewellery grew in popularity at the turn of the 20^th Century due to a renewed love of the natural world following the vast urbanisation of the country and were often decorated with colourful gemstones to enhance their beauty and value.

The largest Diamond is a beautiful Rose cut claw set at the head and weighs approx. 0.60ct with a total of approx. 1.50ct across the piece.  

The body is fashioned entirely in 18ct Gold and fitted with a pin and safety lock clasp on the reverse. It’s remained in pristine condition and displays a fabulous collection of gemstones.
